Women We Love (XIV)

  • Name: Philemona Williamson
  • What words best describe you? Painter, loyal friend, good listener
  • What is it that inspires you? Color, people’s stories and their relationships to each other, vulnerability
  • What are you most grateful for? I am grateful to have been allowed to follow my passion and paint. I am grateful for my supportive, loving husband, children, family and a multitude of incredible friends who are always present for me.
  • What important values do you live by? Be kind, work hard
  • Life is… not long enough
  • Love is… wonderful
  • Work is… life, love, sweet, magical
  • Biggest achievement so far… raising two wonderful children, while pursuing my career as a painter
  • Hardest thing you’ve ever done… I can’t think of anything that I have done as the hardest. Everything is hard when you start, but by the time it is done, the memory is just of a good experience. Maybe the hardest is in my future.
  • Most impactful or favorite book… Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston
  • Least favorite word… can’t, don’t
  • Where do you see yourself in five years? I would like to be working on a large Public Art Project in a major city.

I’ve twice seen your work at the June Kelly Gallery her in New York on Mercer Street. Many years ago, I attended on of your shows with (sorry, his name escapes me) the owner of the Saint Marks Theatre who said that he knew you personally. Love your work!
