Women We Love (XVII)

  • Name: Andrea Lipps
  • What words best describe you? I’ll stick to five: Genuine and Playful. Curious. Energetic. Personable. Maybe three more: Independent. Passionate. Creative. Definitely Humble. And Ambitious. My husband would say Stubborn, but I disagree.
  • What inspires you? Anything unexpected. Variable typography. Muriel Cooper. The #metoo and #neveragain movements.
  • What are you most grateful for? My kids. Our good health.
  • What important values do you live by? Treat others like you’d want to be treated. Work hard. Love harder. Put the phone down.
  • Life is… miraculous. Not guaranteed. But insatiably fun and difficult and saturated.
  • Love is… that feeling when your kids squeal as you walk through the door.
  • Work is… passion and curiosity. It’s where I push myself out of my comfort zone.
  • Biggest achievement so far… Birthing my two kids – the second within 13 minutes of arriving at the hospital.
  • Hardest thing you’ve ever done… Initiate a miscarriage. My husband and I were elated when we learned we were pregnant. Three weeks later the doctor said there was no heartbeat and gave me a pill to take at home to initiate the miscarriage. It was barbaric.
  • Most impactful or favorite book… The Natural History of the Senses by Diane Ackerman is poetic and sticky. I find myself returning to it often. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi is devastating and raw and brilliantly told.
  • Least favorite word… Douchebag
  • Where do you see yourself in five years? In my pajama pants, writing at my computer and eating a bowl of cereal.
